Hattie J. Ficek, 96, formerly of Dickinson, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at New London, Minn. Hattie’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec, with Msgr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services with a rosary being said at 10 a.m.

Hattie Judith Hibl was born on February 18, 1920, in Dickinson, ND, to Vincent and Agnes (Kostelecky) Hibl.  She grew up on a farm west of New Hradec. Hattie was baptized, confirmed and married in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. She also attended school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School, where she graduated from the 8th grade. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide in hospitals in Dickinson, Fargo, ND, and Richfield, MN.

Hattie was united in marriage to Vincent A. Ficek on October 25, 1939. He went to his eternal rest in 1983. Hattie, along with her husband, lived in Dickinson; Loveland, CO; Billings, MT; Fargo, ND; Richfield, MN; retiring to Audubon, MN. After Vince’s death, Hattie moved several times to the following: Spicer, MN; Moorhead, MN; West Fargo, ND, Alexandria, MN, and New London, MN. Hattie enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. To her, moving was an adventure. Hattie always had a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes. She loved helping and giving to others. Hattie’s love of crocheting was evident in all the afghans, baby blankets, hats and scarves that she made for others. She also enjoyed reading and gardening.

She is survived by her five children: Joann Crosby, Rochester, NY; Myron (Debra) Ficek, New London, MN; Joyce (Stephen) Carlson, Garfield, MN; Wayne (Tuyet) Ficek, Valley Center, CA; David (Judith) Ficek, Apple Valley, MN. She has nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Vincent (Georgie) Hibl of Dickinson; three sisters-in-law, Marge Hibl and Daphne Hibl of Dickinson, and LaVarre Hibl of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Hattie in death were her husband, Vincent; a daughter, Janet; her parents and three brothers, Albert, Leonard and Laudie.
