Hedy Gullickson was born in Hettinger County of North Dakota, the daughter of Alfred and Dorothy (Bohnhoff) Gullickson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England. She was raised on a farm in Slope County where she attended country school through the 6th grade. Her and two brothers Clyde and Douglas would make the walk to school together. Following her dad becoming ill, the family moved into New England. Hedy attended and graduated from New England Public School in 1960.
Hedy was united in marriage to Marvin Bohlman on January 6th, 1961 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, and two children were born, Nancy Sue, Nov. 15, 1964 and Casey John, Feb. 17, 1973. They were the last ones to be married in the old church and Marvin’s dad bought the building and moved it to his farm north of New England. She had worked at the grocery store following school until it closed and then at the bowling alley. In August 1966 she began a career with MDU in New England and then transferred to Dickinson, retiring in 2009.
The Bohlman’s purchased the Olaf and Laura Engraff farmstead southwest of New England, where they raised cattle and horses. Following Marvin’s death in 2020, she continued to stay on the farm until her death.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking Lefsa, Krub, Krum Cake, and Norwegian pastries. She also enjoyed quilting, bowling, cards, casinos, and rodeos.
