Helen Edmere Bolack was born September 8, 1909, at Grand Forks, the daughter of Phillip James and Agnes Marie (Larivee) Bolack. She was raised and educated in Grand Forks, having graduated from St. Michael’s Academy in Grand Forks.

Helen worked as an Operator for Bell Telephone Co. and had met a man by the name of Donald O. Tweed who also worked for Bell Telephone as a Supervisor, cable splicer/trouble shooter. They were married on May 17, 1932 in Grand Forks. They moved around for 13 years with Don’s job before first settling in Bismarck, then to Taylor and eventually to Richardton. While in Taylor they were owner/operators of the Peoples Telephone Exchange in 1953, and while in Richardton she spent 27 1/2 years as the school Librarian at St. Mary’s. It wasn’t until her health began to fail here that she was forced to retire at the age of 88 1/2 years in 1997.

Helen was a member of Catholic Daughters, helped start & worked at St. Mary’s Thrift Shop, and the Sodality in Taylor. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, making a home, riding horse, reading, cleaning, visiting over a cup of coffee, working in her yard, she had a good sense of humor, and especially loved the time spent with her daughter and granddaughters.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Susan (Leo) Krenzel, Richardton; four granddaughters, Laurie (Doug) Paulson, Ronda (Mark) Johnson, Kate (Allen) Krehlik, and Jeanne Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Luke Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald O. in 1965; her mother whom she had cared for until her death; her father; and nine siblings. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Friends of the Library.
