Helen Lindbo, 98, Belfield, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Dickinson. Helen’s funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2015 at Belfield Lutheran Church, Belfield, with Rev. Roger Dieterle officiating. Interment will follow at Belfield Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Helen Pearl Gunkel was born April 29, 1917 on the family ranch south of Fryburg, the daughter of Carl G. and Elizabeth (Vassie) Gunkel. She was raised and educated in the Belfield area, having attended Belfield High School.

Helen was united in marriage to Andrew M. Lindbo on May 25, 1935 in Richardton. They resided in Belfield where she worked at various jobs, such as the Chamber of Commerce, Painted Canyon Café, and the Belfield Pharmacy. She managed dress shops in Dickinson, Fashion City, Wise, and R. Allen’s.

She taught Sunday School, Bible School, participated in Ladies Aid, enjoyed quilting, needlework, and was a fabulous cook and seamstress. She enjoyed going camping, fishing, bowling, dancing, playing cards and gardening. Helen’s home was always open to others, she would take in teachers and other relatives attending high school, providing them with a bed to sleep and food to eat. She loved the badlands, and in her younger days she was an avid horse woman.

Helen is survived by her children, Elliot (Helen) Lindbo, Belfield, Karen (Duane) Davis, Circle Pine, Minn., Connie (Roger) Shure, Blue Earth, Minn., Rodney (Janet) Lindbo, Belfield, and LaRae Tschetter, Belfield; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew on January 24, 2008; her parents and grandparents; and siblings, Gene Gunkel, Karlie Gunkel, Iza Doering, Mildred Connell, Margaret Griffin, and Gertrude Scott.
