Henry “Hank” Novotny, 74, Dickinson, died Friday, September 6, 2013 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Hank’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Kregg Hochhalter as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.
Henry Novotny was born December 13, 1938 in Dickinson the son of Anton and Rose (Ridl) Novotny. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, having attended Roosevelt Elementary. He spent many days hunting and fishing on the Heart River with his friends and brothers.
Hank joined and served honorably in the United States Navy for six years. Following his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Dickinson and was united in marriage to Georgene “Jean” Goetz on September 26, 1966, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton.
He was a truck driver throughout his life, at Husky Industries, and with Stark Ready Mix. He was retired at the time of his death. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and his sons. Hank was very devoted to his daily prayer time.
Hank is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, Marcellus (Bonita) Novotny, Dickinson, and Shawn Novotny, Bismarck; two grandsons, Anthony and Christopher Novotny; one great-grandchild, Phoenix Novotny; four siblings, Gilbert (Diane) Novotny, Dickinson, Darlene (Ken) VanBillard, Riverside, Calif., Karen (Doug) Rowe, Dickinson, and Patty Toof, Rapid City, S.D.; one sister-in-law, Elaine Novotny, Dickinson; and Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Anthony and Earl.
