Henry Sabo a rural farmer and long time dairyman was born six miles southeast of Lefor, ND, on January 27, 1922 to John L. and Mary (Burger) Sabo.
Henry was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 20, and he spent the next 3 1/2 years in the military as a radio operator and language interpreter during World War II. He received many medals and honors during his time of service, the Bronze Star was one he was especially proud of.
Henry married Emelia Joan Heilman on March 31, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. The first 1 1/2 years of marriage was spent on a small farm north of Golva, ND. After that time, they moved to and rented the Ed Culver farm 11 miles northeast of Dickinson which they purchased a few years later. Henry and Emelia continued to live on the farmstead until his recent illness. Their love and passion in life was farming and the preservation of the land so future generations can enjoy God’s gift to man. The highlight of each day for Henry was his morning coffee and breakfast at the kitchen table while watching all the wildlife come out of the shelterbelt to eat. He took pride in the fact that most of the repair work on the farm equipment and vehicles was done by himself. He taught his sons and daughters the value of doing things themselves and taking pride in doing them the right way.
Henry was on the Versippi School Board for 10 years, an ASC member for 10 years, a member of the St. Joseph’s Church and a lifetime member of KC Council #6308, the Eagle’s Club and the VFW.
