Herbert Emmil, 89, Belfield, died Monday, October 22, 2018 at Sanford Health, Bismarck. Herbert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2018 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. Shane Campbell as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 6 p.m with Deacon Loren Kordonowy presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Herbert Emmil was born March 31, 1929 at Schefield, the son of Jerome and Anna (Huschka) Emmil. He was raised and educated in the Schefield area, having attended St. Pius School. Following his fathers death when he was 13 years old, Herb took on the responsibility of the family farm.

Herb was united in marriage to Sarah Herauf on May 16, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They farmed near Schefield until 1953 when the family moved to the Herauf family farm 11 miles south of Belfield. They retired from farming in 2003, but remained on the farm until July 14, 2018 when they made the move to Edgewood Hawks Point in Dickinson.

He was a member of the KC, St. Pius Verein, Farmers Union Board, Southwest Grain Board and St. Bernard’s Church. He loved driving around on his Ranger, companionship of his dog Sam and going fishing.

Herb is survived by his wife Sarah; their children, Darrell (special friend Connie) Emmil, Bismarck, Deborah Herold, Lefor, David (Annie) Emmil, Reno, Nev., Denise (Mark) Hewson, Dickinson and Donald (Sue) Emmil, Dickinson; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Dorothy Emmil, Dickinson, Irene Kovash, Billings, Mont., Leona (Alton) Jacobs, Dickinson and William Emmil, Dickinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary; son-in-law, Keith Herold; daughter-in-law, Ruth; sister-in-law, Luella Emmil; and brother-in-law, Victor Kovash.
