Isadore “Izzy” Pavlicek was born on March 26, 1917 in Dickinson, to Emanuel and Mary (Fisher) Pavlicek. Isadore attended Sts. Peter and Paul school in New Hradec until the 8th grade. He served in the Air Force in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to North Dakota and worked with his father on the farm north of Dickinson.

He married Emma Privratsky on October 14, 1953 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson. Together, they had three sons, Curt, Lee, and Dale, and one daughter, Nancy. Isadore bought the farm from his father in 1951 and continued to be active in farming until 2005. Isadore had a great passion for farming and for collecting and restoring antique automobiles. He was able to tell the make, year, and changes made to cars from year to year. He took pride in always having clean equipment and vehicles and had a collection of 17 antique automobiles. Despite some of the adversities that come with farming, Isadore was always optimistic about the outcome. He would say, “There’s always next year.”

He was known for his very quick wit and was sure to make his family laugh. His faith in God was important to him and he was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. After retirement, he still came out to the farm during seeding and harvest and at the age of 98, Isadore was still able to climb the ladder into the combine without any help. Throughout his long life, he was able to witness the transformation of working with horses in the field to equipment that drives itself.

Isadore enjoyed spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren. Isadore is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Emma; his children Curt (Terry) Pavlicek of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lee (Corrine) Pavlicek of Dickinson, Nancy (Doug) Wendt of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Dale (Lisa) Pavlicek of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren Chase (Ashley) Richards, Paige and Cole Pavlicek, Ashley, Parker, and KarLee Pavlicek, Carter Wendt, Whitney and Payton Pavlicek; and great grandchild Beckam.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and all seven siblings, Tony Pavlicek, Emil Pavlicek, Beatrice Ridl, Emma Semerad, Anna Dvorak, Edward Pavlicek, and Evelyn Gerber.
