James A. Fichter, 47, formerly of Dickinson died unexpectedly on Monday, March 12, 2012 in Elizabeth, Colo. Mass of Christian Burial for James will be at 1 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2012 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Inurnment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Bob Zent presiding.

James Allan Fichter was born September 25, 1964 to Tony and Pauline (Anton) Fichter at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson. He spent the first 19 years of his life in Dickinson. He attended parochial school thru the 12th grade and graduated from Trinity High School in 1982.

James worked for Dinsdale Conoco for one year prior to moving to Denver, Colo., where he attended the Denver Institute of Technology and received a degree in civil engineering and went to work in Denver. He worked for DMJM which took him to several places in the world, such as Saudi Arabia, Japan and New Zealand. He also lived and worked in Hawaii for a year. He returned to Denver and began working for Woody-Clyde Engineering, which was purchased by URS.

He met and then married Carrie Watt on November 11, 1994. In 2001 James formed his own company, Civil Solutions, which he continued to operate to this day. In January of 2002 their son Paul was born and loved spending precious time with him. Paul was his life and soul, they were soul mates whom he loved and cherished. He and James did everything together, hiking, bike riding, skiing, motor cross, football, and baseball. James enjoyed all the countless hours he coached various teams his son played on, and watching Hawaii Five-O and other movies. Their special time was coming up north to visit his North Dakota family. He loved riding his Harley with his buddies and driving his Corvette. James was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Twins Fan. He will be so dearly missed and always loved. James is survived by his wonderful son, Paul, who lives with his mother in Parker, Colo.; his father and step-mother, Tony and Appy Fichter, Dickinson; sister, Janell (Dennis) Stradinger, Dickinson; brother, Terry (Karla Reindel) Fichter, Dickinson; and many special friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Fichter; his grandparents; aunts and uncles; and cousins.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials for an educational fund for his son Paul, sent to Janell Stradinger, 510 7th Ave. East, Dickinson, ND 58601.
