James P. Pfau, 73, Dickinson, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at his home. James’ Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, May 16, 2011 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Joshua Ehli as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with a rosary & vigil at 3 p.m., with Deacon Ron Wolberg presiding.

James Peter Pfau was born October 11, 1937 in Dickinson, the son of Peter and Dorothy (Beaudoin) Pfau. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, having graduated from Dickinson High School in 1955. He then attended NDSU in Fargo, where he earned his degree in Civil Engineering. James also served eight years with the North Dakota National Guard Reserves, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1964.

James married Eileen Wock on July 16, 1960, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. He had a 29 plus year career with the Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Five years was spent in the National Forest, Fort Collins, Colo., three years in the Routt National Forest, Steamboat Springs, Colo., seven years at the Black Hills National Forest, Spearfish, S.D., and his last years prior to retirement in 1996, was spent at Custer National Forest with offices in Dickinson.

James was a 30 year member of the Knights of Columbus, and also belonged to the Slope Area Golden Eagles Flying Club. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, camping, golf, boating, radio controlled air planes and restoring a 1929 Model A Truck.

James is survived by his wife, Eileen; their four children, Craig (Susan) Pfau, Grand Forks, Jeffery Pfau, Maple Grove, Minn., Colleen Pfau, Mandan, and Bradley Pfau, Seattle, Wash.; four grandchildren, Jaydan Bergenheier, Michael Bergenheier, Shayn Mitchell and Clinton Mitchell; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Doug (Carol) Pfau, Dickinson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Hannah (Booke) Beaudoin, John and Rosa (Kohler) Pfau; parents, and other aunts, uncles and cousins.
