James Paul, 80, Dickinson, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Alexius Hospital, Bismarck. Jim’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, January 9, 2012, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Jeff Zwack as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New England. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 4 p.m., Sunday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Ron Wolberg presiding.
James A. Paul was born August 9, 1931 on the family farm in Stark County, the son of John and Rachel (Heidt) Paul.
James married Marylin Frank on October 27, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England. He worked at the Dickinson Red Owl store for two years. They moved to Livingston, Mont., where he worked for Wilcoxsin Ice Cream Plant. In 1959, they moved to the farm south of New England. Marilyn passed away on November 25, 1992. James enjoyed farming and ranching until his retirement.
On October 14, 1995, James was united in marriage to Rose Fischer at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. During his retirement he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling. He loved spending time with his children, step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His recent accomplishments included three paintings which won honorable mention at the Badlands Art Association Show this Fall.
James is survived by his sons, Leon Paul, Jamestown, and Ken Paul, Dickinson; his daughters, Renee (Tim) Jahner, Gillette, Wyo., Rhonda (Terry) Urlacher, Casper, Wyo., and Kathy (Jason) Scallen, Gillette, Wyo.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Travis) Castelli, Juliane (Cory) Albrecht, Scott Jahner, Andrew Urlacher, Eric Urlacher, Shanna Urlacher, and Kelcey Paul; three great-grandchildren; five step-children, Jackie (Sam) Buckley, Mandan, Nancy Newell, Cincinnati, Ohio, Paula (Greg) Kostelecky, Arvada, Colo., Tama (Rollie) Baumgarten, Belfield, and Linda (Paul) Miller, Billings, Mont.; many step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob (Bev) Paul, Grays River, Wash., Gene (Frances) Paul, Longview, Wash., and Ray (June) Paul, Longview, Wash.; five sisters, Emma Reiss, Anaconda, Mont., Albina (Fred) Geerts, Regent, Martina Eckard, Billings, Mont., Agnes (John) Schmitz, Woodland, Wash., and Millie Tatum, Napa, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Cathy Paul, Washington. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marylin; his second wife, Rose; his parents; three sisters, Cecelia King, Rosie Harris and Jo Millet; and one brother, Henry Paul.
