Janice “Jan” (Brentrup) Byrd, 63, Madison, S.D., formerly of New England, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at her home in Madison. Jan’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England, with Fr. Patrick Moore, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, at the church with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Victor Dvorak presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Janice was born February 15, 1948, the daughter of Hubert and Millie (Narum) Brentrup, New England.

Janice graduated from St. Mary’s High School New England, in 1966 and went to Presentation College in Aberdeen, S. D. for the first two years of her education. She finished her degree in Medical Technology at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks in 1971.

She started her working career in Kenosha, Wisc., working in the hospital from 1971 to 1980. She moved to Sheridan, Wyo., in 1980 where she met and married, Rick Byrd in Rapid City, S.D. In 1986 they were transferred to Chandler, Ariz., and lived there until 1998. In 1998 they were transferred to Madison, S. D. Janice has one son Brian born February 16, 1987 who resides in Hartford, S.D.

Janice was nationally registered as a Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathology. She loved skiing, (snow and water), swimming, most sports, music, crafts, card playing and reading. Her loving heart and ever-ready sense of humor and wit made her a special friend to all who knew her.

Janice is survived by her son, Brian and former husband, Rick; three sisters, Renee King, Gillette, Wyo., Patricia (Mart) Brentrup-Cox, Billings, Mont., Cindy (Ed) Striebel, Black Hawk, S.D.; five brothers, Ronald Brentrup, Bowman, Richard (Linda) Brentrup, Littleton, Colo., Neil (Shirley) Brentrup, Dickinson, Barry Brentrup, New England, Greg Brentrup, Dickinson; six nieces and nine nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Jerome and Paul and one niece Dakota Culkin.
