Janice Yarchan, 62, New England, died Saturday, August 8, 2009 at her home. Janice’s memorial service will be Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, New England with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Black Hill National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
Janice Harmening was born June 26, 1947 to Howard and Irma (Polak) Harmening at Redfield, S.D. Janice was raised in Tulare, S.D. and graduated from Tulare High School. She married Marvin Phillips at New Ulm, Minn. on March 6, 1966. She and Marvin lived in Indiana, Florida, and South Dakota. After Marvin’s death in 1994 Janice moved back to Indiana where she met Robert Yarchan, they were married in 1999.
Janice worked various jobs to include CNA, medical film recorder, nanny, and house keeping supervisor, she retired from fulltime work in 2000 but continued to work part-time as a dietary aide until she became ill with pancreatic cancer in 2007. Janice belonged to the New England Women’s Club and the New England Quilting Club. She enjoyed baking cakes and sharing them with the many people she knew in New England.
Janice is survived by her husband Robert, New England; one daughter, Valerie (Kyle) Johns Chesterton, Ind.; six step-children, Rodney (Sharon) Phillips, Westville, Ind., Sandy Miles, Eau Claire, Wis., Barb Phillips, White Bear, Wis., Robin Phillips, White Bear, Deanna Nugent, Renssenlaer, Ind., and Becky (Jered) Sanders, Lake Station, Ind.; six grandchildren, Erika, Kylie, Jacob, Teague, Cardin and Evan; two brothers, Gary Harmening, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Dennis (Debbie) Harmening, Ariz.; and one sister, Donna (Wayne) Matheny, Gary, Ind. Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Marvin, one nephew, one stepson, and one infant granddaughter.
