Jean M. Hammond, 92, Dickinson, died Saturday September 11, 2010 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. A memorial service for Jean will be held in the Spring of 2011.

Jean Morris was born June 29, 1918 to Edwin and Helen (Frost) Morris at Lake City, Minn. After graduating from Lake City High School, Jean worked at a ball bearing plant in St. Paul, Minn. during the WWII war effort. She married Rienzi Hammond on March 10, 1952 at Lake City, shortly thereafter they moved to their farm south of Golva where they lived for many years. While living in the Golva area, Jean worked for a local bank and Golden Valley Social Services. Jean and Rienzi moved to Dickinson in 1975. While in Dickinson she worked for Stark County Housing Authority as a bookkeeper. In 2006 Jean and Rienzi moved to Elko, Nev. where they lived with their daughter, Rhonda and her family. In 2009 Jean moved back to Dickinson and lived at Hawk’s Point until very recently.

Jean was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Happy Valley Homemakers, and several Bible study groups. Jean enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, graphoanalysis, and spending time with her family.

Jean is survived by four children, Edwin (Cheryl) Hammond, Golva, Mary (Mitchell) Berry, Newport News, Va., Rhonda (Randy) Porter, Elko, Nev., and April Hammond, Dickinson; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Rienzi, one son, Johnny, one brother, John Morris, and one infant sister.
