Jerome Herauf, 92, Van Nuys, Calif., died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Sun Valley, Calif. On Thursday, April 23, 2015 there will be a visitation with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a rosary and vigil at 6 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding. Military honors will follow the service, provided by the Dickinson Honors Team. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery on Friday.
Jerome Herauf was born June 28, 1922 at Schefield, the son of Peter and Emma (Braun) Herauf. He was raised and educated at Schefield.
Jerome was united in marriage to Alice Kadrmas on November 17, 1942, while he was stationed in the Navy. He had served honorably in the United States Navy from October 12, 1942 to October 6, 1945, and during this time he was aboard the USS Bunker Hill Aircraft Carrier.
His return to North Dakota began his career in carpentry. He and Alice spent most of their married life in Van Nuys, where Jerome worked in carpentry throughout the San Fernando Valley of California. Retiring in 1985, gave him time to do more golfing, watching westerns, and working on his collection of old time music vinyl’s. He belonged to the carpenters group of Sylmar, Calif., and had a special connection to the Boys Ranch in Northridge, Calif.
Jerome is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alice; brother, Tom (Shirley) Herauf, Portland, Ore.; sister, Milly Boley, Northridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Florence Kohler; and brother, Tony Herauf.
