Joan E. Fielding, 81, New England, N.D. On January 11, 2015 at 6:45 a.m., our mom, Joan E. Fielding, passed from this world and into eternity. Joan’s memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the Church of Christ, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.
Joan Evelyn Waite was born August 9, 1933 in Breckenridge, Minn., the daughter of John Donovan and Evelyn Amelia (Schultz) Waite. Throughout her life she has lived in numerous communities in Minnesota, Colorado and North Dakota.
She was known to all for her quick wit and humor; she loved to make those around her smile, and even more so, to laugh. She made many friends during the years that she ran her small gift shop, Fielding’s Something Special, in Battle Lake, Minn. Joan was known as ‘the Wonderful Beanie Baby Lady’. She loved dogs, Hershey bars, rare t-bone steaks and the Vikings. Mom had a difficult life but she never carried a chip on her shoulder. She wasn’t a perfect parent, but none of us are; Mom raised three children who all went on to have families of their own and as I look at how they all turned out, even to the last grandchild, I must say, “Well Done Mom!” Or as she would say (with tongue in cheek) “You Done Good” Mom!
Joan is survived by her three children, John D.W. (Mitzi) Fielding, New England, N.D., Michael E.W. (Kristina) Fielding, Battle Lake, Minn., and Evelyn Jonni W. (Jake) Fielding, Grand Rapids, Minn.; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Christopher Patrick Waite Fielding; and her very close friend, Warren Bedingfield.
