John loved North Dakota and was proud to call Belfield home. He was generous with his time and took all his friendships seriously. He loved to tinker in his shop, enjoyed reading Western novels, and all the trips to Montana, California, Wyoming, and Illinois to visit family and friends.

John is survived by four brothers, Ellis (Shelva), Dennis (Nora), Howard (Connie), and Tom (Patty); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Clara; sisters, Marianne Lee, and Dorothy Hardy; and infant sister, Margaret Kathleen.
