John Kubischta was born May 12, 1928 in Dickinson, the son of Henry and Barbara (Kopp) Kubischta. He worked at Kramer Sheet Metal in 1949. John was called to serve in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952. Following his honorable service to his country, John started farming. While farming, he was also a carpenter for Bosch Lumber from 1954 to 1964, building many homes in the area.

John married the love of his life, Gladys Meduna on November 3, 1953 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. They lived in the town of Dickinson until 1963, when they moved to a farm north of Dickinson. He and Gladys retired, and moved back to Dickinson and built a home for themselves in 1998.

He was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and the Eagles Club as a Golden Age Eagle Member.

John loved to farm. He enjoyed the peacefulness of the country and the simple things life had to offer. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He has always loved music and even as his health diminished you can see him tapping his foot to the music. He many times loved to play a tune at the piano, playing by ear.

He enjoyed traveling, especially the trip to Texas with some of his grandchildren to see where he had served in the Army and his trip to Nashville, to see his oldest granddaughter take her vows to become a Dominican Sister of St. Cecilia Convent.

John is survived by three children, Ken (Monica) Kubischta, Bismarck, Diane (Joseph) Wanner, Hebron, and Sharon (Philip) Wallace, Dickinson; eight grandchildren, Holly Polanchek, Garrett Kubischta, Sister Cecilia Anne Wanner OP, Kristi (Scott) Hofer, Kimberly (James) Fries, Chelsea Wallace, Stephanie Wallace, and Kayla Wallace; four great-grandchildren, Aiden and Olivia Hofer, and Maria and Lily Fries; one sister, Josephine Schmidt; brother-in-law, Richard Fix; and sister-in-law Betty Kubischta. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys on January 25, 2007; his parents; brother, Alex Kubischta; sister, Frances Fix; brother-in-law, Arnold Schmidt; along with numerous aunts and uncles.
