John Kuylen, 93, South Heart, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. John’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, South Heart, with Fr. Shannon Lucht as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a Knights of Columbus Rosary and Parish Vigil at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.

John Kuylen was born October 13, 1918 at Woensdrecht, Holland to Alphonse and Johanna (Overbecke) Kuylen. When John was 10 years old he and his brother, Andy, and their parents came to America. John attended school in South Heart. Around the age of 18 he worked in Eastern Montana with the CCC’s. He farmed all his life with his parents on a farm south of South Heart.

John married Mary (Kostelecky) Adamski on August 25, 1978 after which he retired from farming and lived in South Heart. John enjoyed bowling, fishing, woodworking, traveling, and playing cards.

John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Senior Citizen Club of South Heart.

John is survived by six step-daughters: Arleen Tuhy, Angelwood, Okla., Gerri Backes, Kalispell, Mont., Dori (Larry) South, Miles City, Mont., Debbie (Dan) Zirpel, Parkston, S.D., Paulette (Chuck) Meduna, Dickinson, and Mari (Rick) Kovash, Dickinson; 18 step-grandchildren; 29 step-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Martha Kuylen, South Heart, Francis Ridl and Mildred Kostelecky, Dickinson; one brother-in-law, Frank Kostelecky, Dickinson; nephews, Pat (Kathy) Kuylen, South Heart, Ken (Cindy) Kuylen, Pick City, Glen Kuylen, San Antonio, Texas, Bob (Brenda) Kuylen, South Heart and nieces, Sue (Don) Scheeler, Bismarck, JoAnn (Glen) Stursa, Winnemucca, Nev., and Wendy (LeRoy) Anderson, Winnemucca, Nev.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary, one brother, Andy, one step-daughter, Marcey Crawford, and one step-son-in-law, Ken Backes.
