John Schubert, 78, Richardton, ND, died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at MedCenter One, Bismarck, ND. John’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, February 28, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery with military honors provided by the Richardton American Legion Theo R. Zech Post #180. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.. There will be a rosary at 8 p.m., Wednesday at the church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday.
John was born May 19, 1929 12 miles north of Richardton to Fred and Mary (Zentner) Schubert. Growing up he attended Germainia District School #3 and lived on the family farm until 1952. John was drafted into the United States Army in 1952 and served 18 months in Korea, being Honorably Discharged in 1954.
John returned home and spent several years on the farm. He had worked for three years at Horner Chevrolet and three years for Stark County, and for 29 years as a bus driver for the Richardton school system. He was stricken with heart disease in 1987 which forced him to retire.
John was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Korean Veteran Association of Jamestown, Veteran Bull Session of Devils Lake, ND, Coronary Support Group, and also a life member of the Knights of Columbus.
John is survived by one brother, Roy (Shirley) Schubert, Richardton; three sisters, Cecilia Kuntz, Brighton, CO, Delores (Reinhard) Godes, Belfield, and Albertina Wanner, Sacramento, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
