John Stoltz, 82, Dickinson, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. John’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Chuck Huck as the celebrant and Fr. Keith Streifel as con-celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Gladstone at a later date. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Al Schwindt presiding.
John was born June 30, 1931, at Gladstone, the son of Philip and Margaret (Boehm) Stoltz. He was raised on the family farm and attended the Shipley School south of Dickinson for eight years. He continued to live on the farm, helping his father and the neighbors, eventually purchasing the farm from his dad.
John was united in marriage to Loretta Heidt, on August 7, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They remained on the farm raising their family of eight children, until 1987 when they moved into Dickinson. He had also during this time worked for Schnell’s Livestock for 37 years, and at a variety of other jobs in Dickinson.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, life member of the Eagles, and a member of the St. Anthony and St. Pius Verein. He was a handyman, able to fix odds and ends, enjoyed doing arts and crafts, and visiting and meeting other people.
John is survived by his wife, Loretta; their eight children, Doug (Diane) Stoltz, Bismarck, Mel (Joan) Stoltz, Valley City, Allen (Margaret) Stoltz, Blaire, Neb., Larry (Peter) Stoltz, Washington, DC, Denelle (Leonard) Hibl, Dickinson, Lyle (Lisa) Stoltz, Dickinson, Chad (Nancy) Stoltz, Dickinson, and Joelle (Tom) Davenport, Richardton; 17 grandchildren, Courtney Stoltz, Rachel Stoltz, Allison Stoltz, Tyler (Kadie) Stoltz, Tiffany (Casey) Freidig, Derek (Rachel) Stoltz, Travis (Tara) Stoltz, Hope (Mark) Uphoff, Garrett (Darcy Schmeling) Hibl, Austin Hibl, Michaela Stoltz, Shelby Stoltz, Amanda Stoltz, Ashley Stoltz, Shawn Stoltz, Taylor Davenport, and Isabelle Davenport; two grand-grandchildren, Sloan Stoltz and Sawyer Uphoff; brother, Victor (Irene) Stoltz, Citrus Heights, Calif.; sister-in-law, Rose Stoltz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred and George; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna (Tony) Hellman, and Lena (Paul) Aman; and granddaughter, Kaycee Davenport.
