Joseph “Joe” A. Kostelecky, 65, Dickinson, died on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at his home surrounded by family. Private Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with Military Honors provided by the Mandan American Legion Honor Guard.
Joseph Anton Kostelecky was born March 5, 1961 in Lafayette, LA, the son of Albert L. and Virgie M. (Blanchard) Kostelecky. He was raised and educated in Dickinson, having graduated from Dickinson High School in 1979. He went on to honorably service in the United States Navy from January 19, 1984 to April 18, 1989.
Joe was united in marriage to Lynn Renner on July 30, 1985 in Dickinson. Joe’s greatest joy in life was his grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply. He treasured the time he spent with them whether watching movies or sports, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter.
Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lynn; children, Tracie (Tony) Hill, Memphis, TN, Dustin, Dickinson, and Morgan (Bob) Thayer, Billings, MT; five grandchildren, Baylor, Jameson, and Miller Hill, Callen and Easton Thayer; siblings, Barb (Don) Hauck, Gwen Jilek, Adrianne (Ode) Wanner, Olivia (Doug) Wellenstein, and Cindy Fugere, all of Dickinson; numerous nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Nelson; and brother-in-law, Chad Renner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Virgie; fathers-in-law, Smokey Renner and Dale Nelson, and brother-in-law, Dave Fugere.
