Joseph Kostenko, 87, Dickinson, died Monday, November 11, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Joe’s memorial service will be at Ladbury Funeral Service on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Inurnment will follow at Killdeer Cemetery, Killdeer. Joe’s visitation will be on Thursday from noon until service time at Ladbury Funeral Service. Military honors will be presented by the Dickinson Honors Team.
Joseph was born August 23, 1926 at Grassy Butte to Moses and Lizzy (Velenchenko) Kostenko. After completing his education in Grassy Butte, Joe joined the US Army and served honorably from June 1945 until December 1946. Joe and his brother Andy started A&J Surplus in Watford City selling surplus military items. Later Joe began farming southwest of Dickinson and also did custom combining in the southern US.
Joe was a member of the Eagles. He loved farming, but his favorite times were those spent with his family, especially his grandkids.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Lynette (Charlie) Dunbar, Baldwin; two grandchildren, Jessica and Brandon; three sisters, Alice Kostenko, Killdeer, Katie Kukla, Killdeer, and Lucy (Chuck) Frank, Livermore, Calif, and one brother, Andy (Suzie), Grassy Butte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ann Campbell and Mary Jane Snook and one brother, Frank.
