Josephine Hartman, 89, Dickinson, died Friday, September 24, 2010 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Josephine’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Keith Streifel as the Celebrant and Fr. Dennis Schafer as Con-Celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Ladbury Funeral Service with Fr. Dennis Schafer presiding.
Josephine Stroh was born May 20, 1921 at Manning, the daughter of Raphael and Klementina (Keller) Stroh. She was raised and educated in country schools in Dunn County.
Josephine married John A. Hartman on July 12, 1943, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, New Hradec. Following their marriage they rented a farm west of Manning. The following Spring they bought a farm near St. Edward’s Church at Fayette. After 12 years on the farm they moved into Dickinson and continued to farm for several years. While in Dickinson, she enjoyed volunteering to bake at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Josephine belonged to the St. Anne’s Auxiliary, Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed gardening and baking, and always had an “open door” policy. Josephine’s Catholic faith, hard work and devotion to her family were her main priorities in life.
Josephine is survived by her four daughters, Leona (Lawrence) Lindgren, Grand Forks, Eva (Larry) Bohn, Las Vegas, Nev., Elaine (fiance-Lyle Bohn) Sleboda, Dickinson, and Karla (Robert) Olheiser, Princeton, Minn.; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Eleanor Schmidt, Louise Faller and Eva Kilzer, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John on May 6, 2000; her parents; and seven siblings.
