Our beautiful, loving first born, Joshua Cody, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022, surrounded by his family. Josh was a beautiful soul with a heart of gold and would doing anything for anyone. He was always inventing something to make a project work; you would see his mind working as the blueprints for his ideas were forming. We were always in awe of how much talent he had. Josh began exploring his talents when he joined Cub Scouts.

He enjoyed bowling with his family in league, loved golfing with his dad and brother and driving his sister crazy with his snoring, but Josh’s true passion was his love for dirt track racing. He was introduced to the sport of racing by mom and dad as a baby and put in the driver’s seat of Don Gumke’s 2* at age 3. Don became one of Josh’s role models, doodling racecars and 2*s on all of his school work.

At the age of 14, Josh was finally behind the wheel of a racecar along side his cousin Jeremy in the Big Bag Race at Southwest Speedway. The following year, he had his own with his chosen #15J. Fran Martin helped guide Josh in the beginning of his racing career, eventually racing against each other when Josh entered the ICMA Modifieds. Now in a Modified, Josh was finally able to race his role model, Don Gumke, creating a friendship that continued over the years. After Gumke retired, Josh decided it was the right time to make his dream come true and change his # to the legendary 2*. Rick Schmidt, another role model, introduced Josh to the big league world of drag racing. Their friendship led to crazy adventures and an unbreakable bond. Josh always had many people helping him pit, but his brother from another, Casey, was always by his side to help until he began his own successful racing career. Not long after, his good friend, Derrick, was by his side helping. Throughout Josh’s 25 years of racing, he stayed a true motorhead, working on anything he could take apart and put back together, building his own motorcycle in a shed, which he also built, in the backyard.

Mom was Josh’s biggest supporter, having constant faith throughout his ride of life. Josh was also devoted to his ride or die buddy, Bandit. Bandit went with Josh everywhere, riding with him in his racecar around the pits or in a backpack on his motorcycle. Josh will truly be missed by so many people that entered his life.

Josh is survived by his biggest fans, mom and dad, Vickie and Miles; his forever love, Bandit; brother, Tyler (Jenni); sister, Stefani (Derrick); nephews, Jackson and Cooper; niece, Harper; all of Dickinson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins, from all over.
