Joshua D. Dowhaniuk, 30, Dickinson, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 in Dickinson as the result of an accidental drowning. Joshua’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2010 at Ladbury Funeral Service with speaker Travis Smith presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. to service time at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Joshua David Dowhaniuk was born March 1, 1980 in Dickinson, the son of Gary and Debbie (Engesser) Dowhaniuk. He was raised in Dickinson having attended Roosevelt Elementary and graduating from Dickinson High School in 1998. Josh went on to attend NDSCS in Wahpeton.

Josh worked as a sales rep for Heartland Homes, for AFLAC and Metro Plains Management, but most recently has been working in the oil fields as a motorhand.

Josh met Jenn in February of 2007 and they became engaged in November of 2009. As a child he loved taking things apart and reassembling them. As a teenager he loved skateboarding with his cousins. He enjoyed hiking, fishing and camping with his family and friends. His relaxation was spending time with his dogs. He was always and continued to be the typical but loving older brother who spent many memorable moments with his two sisters, Nicole and Meghan, making grass forts, ditch salads, jumping on the trampoline (training them well. He always made sure to call his parents at least every other day just to tell them “I love you”. He was always willing to lend a helping hand for his aunts, uncles and family friends.

Josh is survived by his parents, Gary and Debbie, Dickinson; his sisters, Nicole (fiancé-Glenn Hennings) Dowhaniuk, Wahpeton, and Meghan (fiancé-Darrick Heinert) Rapid City, S.D.; his fiancée, Jenn Anderson Kostelecky; Jenn’s son, Jayden; grandmother, Clara Dowhaniuk, Belfield; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who loved him. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Alex Dowhaniuk and Gordon Engesser; grandmother, Iris Engesser; and uncles, Kenny Erickson and Brian Donner.
