Josie Klym was born November 8, 1917 on a farm near Gorham, the daughter of George and Hafia (Chorney) Klym. She was raised and educated in the Gorham area.
Josie married William Namyniuk on November 12, 1936 at St. Josaphat’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Gorham. With her husband Bill they spent their years farming in the Fairfield area where they raised their two children. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Josie was known for her beautiful Ukrainian Easter Egg art, which she learned at a young age from her mother and practiced until she was 80 years old. In addition to teaching this art to a number of apprentices, she taught it to her daughter. Pride in her ancestry, love of people, maintaining a home with the warmest hospitality imaginable, baking the best breads and pastries for miles around. Her love of Ukrainian music and vegetable and flower gardening are characteristics that describe this remarkable lady.
Josie is survived by her two children, Raymond Namyniuk, Richardton and Lillian (Mylo) Hellickson, Brookings, S.D.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Baranko, Dickinson; one brother, William Klym, Dickinson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three brothers, Matt, Buster and Tom.
