Joyce Elaine Simonieg, 77, Dickinson, died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Thursday, January 31, 2013 while wintering in Palm Desert, Calif. Joyce’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place later this Spring. Visitation will be on Friday, February 15, 2013, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Ron Keller presiding.
Joyce was born on June 23, 1935, daughter of Joseph and Mary (Sauvageau) Booke. Joyce grew up in Dickinson where she graduated from Dickinson High School and received a teaching degree from Dickinson State. She was an enthusiastic cheerleader in both high school and college. She taught school in Hysham, Mont. and in Walhalla. She married Don Simonieg on April 11, 1956.
Joyce was an avid golfer and a member of the Women’s Golf Association. She enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening. Joyce loved being a grandmother and enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s activities. She taught them crocheting, sewing, fishing, golfing, swimming and how to bake road cookies. She never let a task or challenge get the best of her. Everyday began by completing the daily crossword puzzle. She enjoyed spending time in the summer at Lake Tschida and winters in Palm Desert.
She was survived by husband Don; three sons Keith (Faith) Simonieg and Tom Simonieg of Dickinson and Dirk Simonieg of Bismarck; one sister, Agnes (Don) Enright of Boulder, Colo.; one brother, Duane (Rose) Booke of Fargo; four grandchildren Ryan Messmer, Surprise, Ariz., Brandon Simonieg, Dickinson, Austin Simonieg, Fargo, and Alexandra Simonieg, Mankato, Minn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Glen, Bob, and Bud Booke; and sisters Lorraine Matz and Mildred Gallagher.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made out to Salvation Army, 706 5th Ave. SE, Dickinson, ND or American Lung Association, 212 N. 2nd St., Bismarck, ND 58501 in memory of Joyce E. Simonieg.
