Judith “Judy” Ficek, 79, Fargo, formerly of Dickinson, died on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo. Judy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Robert Shea as celebrant. Interment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Zent presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at the church.

Judith Frenzel was born August 24, 1944 in Dickinson, the daughter of Ralph and Tillie (Marsh) Frenzel. She was raised on the family farm south of Dickinson. Judy attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School for two years, continued her education at farm school, and graduated from Dickinson High School. She completed one year of nurses training, graduating as an LPN. Judy began working at St. Joseph’s Hospital where she worked all phases of nursing with 30 years in Mental Health, 50 years total at the hospital. She retired in 2016, volunteering until she moved to Fargo in 2018.

Judy was united in marriage to Edwin Ficek on June 14, 1965, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dickinson. They made their home in Dickinson where they raised their children, Bryan, Kenneth, and Peggy.

She was Junior Catholic Daughter and a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Judy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, stamping, and traveling with her sisters.

Judy is survived by her children, Bryan Ficek, Fargo, Ken Ficek, Oklahoma City, OK, and Peggy “Peg” (boyfriend, Roger Smith) Collins, Barrett, MN; grandchildren, Jacob (girlfriend, Taylor Farris) Ficek, OK, David (Brooke) Collins, Minot, Kendra (fiancé, Drake Ofsthun) Casselton; great-grandchildren, Case and Colt Collins; siblings and spouses, Darlene (Cliff) York, Judy (Stue) Stenberg, Sandy Frenzel, Ben Howser, Linda Keller, Deb Stockert, Myron (Gayle) Kadrmas, David (Donna) Frenzel, Don (Lonnie) Frenzel, Izzy (Ellen) Mastel, Aggie Ehli; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, on June 12, 2024; parents, Ralph and Tillie Frenzel; father and mother in-law, James and Anne Ficek; twin brother, James Frenzel; brothers, Ralph and Dennis Frenzel; sister, Jane Howser; brothers-in-law, Gene Keller and Valery Stockert; Ficek in-laws, Bob (Dorathy) Ficek, Laudie (Marge) Ficek, Lillian (Joe) Hatzenbiler, Eleanore (Walt) Richards, Dorathy (Clarence) Dorval, and Robert Ehli.
