Julia Gunwall, 90, Manning, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Julia’s Rosary and Liturgy of Word Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at Ladbury Funeral Service with Fr. Darnis Selvanayakam, MSFX presiding. Interment will follow at the Manning Community Cemetery. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to service time on Thursday at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Julia Schwindt was born May 1, 1927 in Dickinson to Andrew and Katherine (Heiser) Schwindt. She was raised and educated in the Manning area. Julia was united in marriage to John W. Gunwall at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killdeer on September 26, 1946. Together they raised their five children, Willard, Karen, John “Allen”, Larry and Judy. She worked as a janitor at the Dunn County Court House, kitchen helper at the Killdeer school and a substitute mail carrier in Dunn County.

Julia was a member of the Alter Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killdeer and the Manning Community Club. She enjoyed bingo, gambling and playing cards.

Julia is survived by her children, Willard (Danette) Gunwall, Dickinson, Karen (Randy) Roshau, Dickinson, John, “Allen” (Nancy) Gunwall, Manning, Larry (Laurie) Gunwall, Manning and Judy Parker, Manning; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Stroh, Dickinson, Eleanor Murphy, Dickinson, Betty Kuntz, Dickinson, Caroline Dillinger, Dickinson, Delores (Gene) Glaser, Dickinson and Jannette (Dick) Straudinger, Rapid City, S. D.

She is preceded in death by her husband John on April 15, 2017; parents, Andrew Schwindt, Katie Chadwick; brothers-in-law, Bill Murphy, Mike Dillinger, Leo Kuntz and Dan Stroh.
