Julius Miller, 97, Dickinson, died Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Julius’ Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Dickinson, with Fr. Todd Kreitinger as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Julius Miller was born May 5, 1918 near Hirschville in Dunn County, the son of Martin P. and Mathilda (Berger) Miller. He was raised and educated in the area, having attended country school. He joined the CCC’s in Hill City, S.D. and again in Medicine Lake, Mont. He then went to Rochester, Minn., where he worked at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Julius was united in marriage to Rose Boespflug on November 18, 1941 at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church, Hirschville. Julius worked for various farmers in the area until 1947 when they purchased a farm west of New England. Here they raised their family of 11 children. They retired in 1979 and moved to Dickinson.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the St. Anthony Club, Germans from Russian Heritage Society, and the Dakota Western Auto Club. He also served as Doure Township Assessor, and on the Doure School Board and ACS Board.

Following retirement he enjoyed woodworking. He enjoyed playing guitar and accordion, and together with his wife Rose, they sang German songs for many gatherings. Julius and Rose had put together several CD’s and records of their music.

Julius is survived by nine children, Helen Koppinger, New England, Rosemary (John) Koenig, Clear Lake, Wisc., Richard Miller, New England, Marcella Miller, Elmwood, Neb., Lorraine (Gerald) Frank, Glendive, Mont., Melvin (Kim) Miller, Napa, Calif., Wayne (Karen) Miller, Algona, Wash., Patrick Miller, Maple Valley, Wash., and Douglas Miller, Sacramento, Calif.; 30 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Jaeger and Eva Rettig; and two brothers, Anton and Paul.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose on May 20, 2014; two children, Lauren and Stanley; grandsons, Jesse and Lance; son-in-law, James Koppinger; and six siblings.
