Karen Sorlie, 73, Dickinson, was called to the Lord on Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Health Center, Dickinson. Karen’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Lisa Lewton officiating. Interment will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the church.

Karen Kae Johnson was born August 18, 1940 at Hettinger, the daughter of Henry and Marjorie (Stubbert) Johnson. She was raised and educated in Hettinger.

On March 29, 1957, she was united in marriage to Duane M. Sorlie at Lemmon, S.D. They remained in Lemmon until 1967 when they moved to Dickinson. Karen worked as a secretary throughout her life, and most recently worked for Gustafson Insurance. Her husband, Duane died on February 18, 2008.

Karen belonged to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, Red Hat, and the Welcome Wagon. She was an avid fan of NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon #24, visiting with friends and family, tending to her flowers, cross-stitch, crocheting, and in her later years traveling.

Karen is survived by three children, Jim (Kitty) Sorlie, Mesa, Ariz., Shari Tavis, Dickinson, and Jodi (Tim) Lindemann, Dickinson; her mother, Marjorie Johnson, Fargo; four grandchildren, Steven Sorlie, Samantha Sorlie, Nicole (Andrew) Soleim, and Michael (Danielle) Tavis; two great-grandchildren, Gabriella Soleim and Layden Benson; her sister, Betty (Rich Lindstrom) Wieland, Fargo; and two nephews, John (Kim) Wieland and Curt Wieland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; one son, Michael; and her dad, Henry Johnson.
