Katherine Haverluk was born July 30, 1911, in Wilton. She was the oldest child of Matt and Martha (Denchenko) Haverluk. She was raised on a farm near the Gorham area.

Katherine married Christ Hatzenbiler on May 27, 1941. Together they had five children: Pete, Daniel, Angeline, Christ, and Rosita. She lived in Dickinson her whole life. She did spend her last 13 winters at her daughter’s home in Missoula. Summers were spent in Dickinson, where she raised a large garden of vegetables and gave a lot away. She canned, made jelly, salsa, baked, and cooked for a lot of family and friends. She loved her flowers. The family always said she had a “green thumb.” Katherine was a very hard working lady.

Katherine had many jobs: cooking, a maid, house keeper, and did ironing for people. She cooked for Sim’s Café, Lee’s Truck Stop, and was a maid at the NoDak and Uptown Motels.

Katherine learned to drive a car in 1963. Her first car was a 1959 Eidsel, which she still had. She drove her car until she was 100 years old. She drove a lot of lady friends around. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Ann’s Society, and Sunset Senior Center, where she played bingo, cards, and visited with friends. Katherine sewed a lot. She made beautiful quilts for all her grand kids. She also did embroidery on dish towels and did crocheting.

Christ passed away September 13, 1963. She lived alone for years until she met and married Pete Logosz on May 10, 1975. Pete later passed away in 1984.

Katherine got to travel a lot with her sisters Olga, Betty, and their families, going to Alaska, Canada, and California, to name a few.

Katherine is survived by three children: Rosita (Alfred) LaRocque of Missoula, Pete (Mary Jane) Hatzenbiler of Belle Fourche, S.D., and Christ Hatzenbiler of Dickinson; ten grandchildren: Jake (Kirsten) Hatzenbiler, Christopher, Shawn, Amanda, and Christina Wanamaker, George (Sylvia) Smith, Steve (April) Hatzenbiler, Troy (April) LaRocque, Terry (Karen) LaRocque, and Wes (Lisa) LaRocque; 16 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Olga Reiter of West Fargo, and Betty Senchuk of Yorkton, Saskatchewan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Christ Hatzenbiler and Peter Logosz, son Daniel Hatzenbiler, daughter Angeline Wanamaker, her parents Matt and Martha Haverluk, sister Ann Swetland, brothers Fred, Sam, George, and Nick Haverluk, and daughter-in-law Florence Hatzenbiler.

Katherine will be missed deeply by all who knew her. Remembrances, condolences, and cards may be sent to 4003 SunRose Dr., Missoula, MT 59804.
