Kenneth R. Slavick, 80, Dickinson, died Thursday, October 24, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Ken’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 28, 2013 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson. Interment will take place at the Medina Cemetery, Medina. Military honors will be provided by the Dickinson Honors Team following the service. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, and on Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.

Kenneth R. Slavick was born July 2, 1933 at Mandan, the son of Joseph and Bessie (Tomanek) Slavick. He was raised, educated and graduated from high school in Mandan.

Ken joined the United States Army and served honorably from January 16, 1951 to his discharge on November 20, 1952. He returned to North Dakota following his discharge. On August 18, 1954 he was united in marriage to Darlene Moser at Medina. They moved to Dickinson in 1965 where Ken went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He remained with them until his retirement in 1996.

He enjoyed playing cards, hunting, woodworking projects, helping friends and family with the home repairs, and playing dice games.

Ken is survived by his three children, Keith Slavick, Dickinson, Sandra Sim, Williston, and Candace (Dave) Maule, Dickinson; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (special friend-Rachel) Sim, Scott Sim, Shaun (Amber) Sim, Tyler Maule, Bruce Slavick, Kirsten Slavick, and Bobby Rierson; six great-grandchildren, Jayden, Derian, Landon, Brooke, Keaton, and Aliyah; two sisters, Val Hoesel, Billings, Mont., and Eileen (Jim) Gerl, Mandan; special friends, Mary and Jerry Guenther; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene on October 24, 1997; his parents; brother, Ervin Slavick; and son-in-law, Jack Sim.
