Kenneth Winch, 58, Dickinson, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Ken’s funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at St. John Evan. Lutheran Church, Dickinson, Rev. Cal Oraw officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. The family will be present at the funeral home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday to greet friends.
Kenneth Vallie Winch was born November 18, 1954 at Prairie du Chien, Wis., the son of Vallie and Renata (Trumm) Winch. At a young age the family moved to Dickinson where he completed his education, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1973.
Ken married Kathleen Krebs on April 17, 1975. When he was 22 years old he was diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, which is a rare nervous system disorder. With the help and dedication of his family, Ken was able to remain at home, and since 1995 he has been living at his parents home.
He enjoyed trips to Sturgis, bringing back tee shirts for everyone and belonging to a social group at Badlands. Ken loved to go fishing, buying fishing gear for the kids and grandkids, playing games and cards with the grandkids, taking the dogs for walks and spoiling them with treats.
Ken is survived by his three children, Kayleen (Tait) Obritsch, Fairfield, Katrina (Sheldon) Sivak, Bismarck, and Kenny (MaKenzie) Winch, Dickinson; eight grandchildren, Seth Obritsch, Breann Obritsch, Brayden Obritsch, Haley Winch, Emily Winch, Kobe Sivak, Alexis Sivak and Brady Sivak; his mother, Renata Winch, Dickinson; five siblings, Dennis (Deborah) Winch, Dickinson, Luann Winch, Dickinson, Phyllis (Allan) Jassek, Gillette, Wyo., Jeff (Rhonda Cook) Winch, Dickinson, and Tim Winch, Dickinson; and his buddy, Russell. He was preceded in death by his father, Vallie, on March 7, 2012; and his grandparents.
