Larry J. Brydl, 80, Dickinson, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Bismarck. Larry’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Fr. Jordan Dosch as the celebrant. Inurnment will take place at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Dickinson American Legion Post 3 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Bob Stockert presiding.

Larry John Brydl was born June 21, 1937 in Dickinson, son of Valerian J. and Lucy (Urbanec) Brydl. He attended grade school at Sts. Peter and Paul in New Hradec, St. Patrick’s School in Dickinson, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1956.

Larry joined the United States Navy on July 26, 1956. He went to boot camp at Great Lakes, Ill. He served on the USS Shangri-La CVA 38 and the USS Onslow AVP 48 being honorably discharge April 27, 1960.

He returned to Dickinson and was united in marriage to Betty Simek on September 7, 1964 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Throughout his life, he worked at the Dakota Clay Plant for five years, the Dickinson Press for ten years and the City of Dickinson Engineering Department for 22 years. During this time, he served on the Dickinson Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years.

He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, the Dickinson Eagles and the Dickinson Elks Lodge #1137. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening and woodworking.

Larry is survived by his wife, Betty; two children, Jerry Brydl, Dickinson and Janel (Travis) Sailer, Bismarck; four grandchildren, Aaron and Rebecca Brydl and Samual and Autumn Sailer; his siblings, Martha Reisenauer, Dickinson, Wilma Kappel, Fargo, Ray Brydl, Dickinson and Janice Baker, Fargo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Laudie (Carol) Brydl; sister-in-law, Virgie Brydl; and brothers-in-law, Lester Baker, Frank Kappel, and Frank Reisenauer.
