Leo R. Fischer, 84, Killdeer, ND, died Thursday, September 11,2008 at his home. Leo’s funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at St. John Lutheran Church, Killdeer, with the Rev. Joel Sauerwein officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery with military honors provided by the Killdeer American Legion, Ezra Barrows Post 46. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson and will continue on Tuesday, one hour prior to services at the church.

Leo was born January 25, 1924 to Anton and Marie (Johnson) Fischer. At the age of 18, he was employed at Kaiser Ship Building in Vancouver, Washington. He served from April 14, 1943 to his honorable discharge on January 10, 1946 in the US Army, spending most of his time in Southeast Asia. After his discharge, he began farming north of Killdeer. He married Dorothy Cuskelly on May 13, 1965, and together they farmed north of Killdeer until his retirement in 2004.

Leo was a member of St. John’s and served on the church council. He also served as the President of Oakdale Cemetery. He enjoyed playing cards and an occasional trip to the casino.

Leo is survived by his wife Dorothy; two sons, Russell (Tammy) Fischer, Minot and Arlin Fischer, Casper, Wyo.; one sister, Mamie Kelling, Killdeer; two granddaughters, Allyssa, and Hannah.
