Leona Gordon, 96, formerly of New England, died on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Leona’s Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England with Fr. Dennis Schafer as celebrant. Interment will take place at Rainy Butte Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson with a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Victor Dvorak presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to mass at the church.

Leona Mae Gordon was born on October 15, 1926 in Regent, the daughter of John and Antonette (Tupa) Wagendorf. She was raised and educated in the Regent area.

Leona was united in marriage to George Gordon on October 16, 1946 in Regent and to this union eight children were born. They lived in Regent, Morristown, SD and eventually moving to New England in 1965. Leona had a cleaning business and co-owned Montgomery Wards in Plentywood, MT and later moved to New England. She also cooked at the bowling alley, New England Public School and Twin Quinn Diner. Leona enjoyed cooking family favorites: dumplings, lefsa, buns, meatballs and “Grandma Cookies” (molasses). 

She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting, quilting, card playing and dancing.

Leona is survived by her children, Gloria (Dan) Maher, Morristown, SD, Gary (Sandy) Gordon, Clarkston, WA, Randy (JoAnn) Gordon, Dickinson, Lona Gordon, Dickinson, Rick (Dana) Gordon, Dickinson, Gail (Elena) Gordon, Bothell, WA, Paul “Fuzz” (Terri) Gordon, Fort Myers, FL, and Annette (Bruce) DeBilt, Berthold; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald Wagendorf, Regent.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Gordon, on September 12, 1976; brothers, John, Joe, Alfred, Alvin, Ray and Daniel Wagendorf; sisters, Katherine Heise and Yvonne Olson; her parents; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
