Leonard J. Roller, 74, New England, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Leonard’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England, with Fr. Patrick Moore, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, with military honors provided by the New England Anton Ulijohn Post #66. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday at the church, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., with Deacon Victor Dvorak presiding.
Leonard James Roller was born December 12, 1937, in Hettinger County of North Dakota, the son of Vincent P. and Magdalen (Selinger) Roller. He attended grade and high school at St. Mary’s School in New England. Leonard entered the United States Army in 1961 and served in Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1963.
Following his discharge from the Army, he moved to Minot and worked for Perolater. In 1983 Leonard moved to Dickinson and worked for Northern Improvement as a truck driver. Later on he worked for Steffan Feeds selling anhydrous. After s short battle with cancer, he entered the St. Benedict’s Health Center in April of 2012.
Leonard was a man of strong faith as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Honor Guard, Knights of Columbus (served as Grand Knight), and also belonged to the St. Anthony Club and St. Pius Verein. Leonard enjoyed visiting the sick in the nursing homes, volunteer work in New England, and coin collecting.
Leonard is survived by nine siblings, Rita (Walt) Steiner, Dickinson, Ann (Nelson) Strecker, Billings, Mont., Paul (Vickie) Roller, Billings, Mont., Fritz (Carol) Roller, Anoka, Minn., Mary Jane (Merle) Annis, Glyndon, Minn., Mike (Karen) Roller, Bismarck, Bernice (Larry) Imhoff, Kalispell, Mont., Louise (Fred) Kiefer, Williamsville, N.Y., and Stephen (Peggy) Roller, New England; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Agnes Hoffer; and brother, Arnold Roller.
