LeRoy “Bud” Smith, 85, Belfield, died Sunday, July 12, 2020 at his home. Bud’s Celebration of Life Service will be 10 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2020 at Belfield Lutheran Church with Rev. Dawn Busch officiating. Inurnment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Belfield.
LeRoy “Bud” Smith was born March 8, 1935 in Schefield to Peter N. and Magdalene (Billman) Smith. He was raised on a farm south of Belfield where he received his education at the Grand Meadow School. He stayed on the farm and worked with his dad and other neighboring farmers for several years and also worked for a seismograph crew.
He married Delores M. Hares on November 30, 1963 at Lebanon Lutheran Church in Amidon. They lived in Amidon and were the managers of a small gas station for a short time. They then returned to the family farm and purchased the farm from Bud’s dad. They farmed, milked cows and ran range cattle until his retirement. Following his retirement, they continued to live on the farm.
He enjoyed playing cards and teasing his grandchildren when they came to visit.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Delores; his daughter, Peggy (Clint) Ridl; grandchildren, Tyler (Jerica) Ridl, Trevor (Apryl) Ridl, Taylor (Kiah Bjerken) Ridl, Alan Ridl and Hope Ridl; one great-grandson, William Ridl; one great-granddaughter, Raelynn Ridl; special niece, Corinna (Chad) Crist and their son, Colton; one brother, Robert Smith; and two sisters, Janice Schlosser and Mary (Pete) Kuntz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Carl “Buster” Smith; and two sisters, LaVerne (Albert) Luptak and Georgiane (Pete) Pedeliski; and brother-in-law, Louie Schlosser.
