LeRoy Gordon Farber age 79 of Reeder, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020. LeRoy’s Private Immediate Family Funeral Service will be at 8:30 a.m., on Friday, December 18, 2020 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson with Rev. Lisa Lewton and Rev. Joe Natwick officiating. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan with Military Honors provided by the Bismarck AMVETS Community Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service.

LeRoy enlisted in the United States Army in 1961. While he was stationed in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Young. After serving three honorable years in the service, they purchased their farmstead.

There were many family gatherings on the farm: Easter included egg hunts and flying kites, Christmas holidays with lots of toy assembly and late night wrapping, birthday cakes, and family meals around the dining room table.

He spent almost every healthy day of his life on the land until he retired in 2005.

Even though he was no longer farming, sowing or harvesting himself, he never stopped caring for the land or feeding the deer and pheasants that roamed the farmstead. LeRoy and Barb took great joy in hosting many hunting groups, forming lifelong friendships with every one of them, and supporting wildlife conservation. Hunters always left gifts of food in gratitude but the best gift of all was when a young Springer Spaniel was lost and was found sitting on the road nearby. LeRoy picked him up, tried finding his owner to no avail. He named this dog Snoopy and took him everywhere.

Barb was his constant partner in the farm and family. After retirement, they took to gardening, enjoying rides in their convertible, and visiting with strangers who became friends at local coffee spots.

Over the last days of LeRoy’s hospitalization, there was no talk of pain or extraordinary achievements; just talk of his loves: his love for Barb, his children and grandchildren, Snoopy, the land, and going for a drive to get coffee.

At LeRoy’s request, in lieu of flowers in his memory, he asked that you perform an act of kindness for a stranger, a neighbor or friend in need, or make a contribution to an animal shelter or animal rescue.

Along with his wife, Barb, he is survived by his daughters, Faith (Keith) Simonieg, Dickinson, Linda Farber, San Antonio, Texas, and Deb (Josh) Reisenauer, Bowman; son, David Farber, Rapid City, S.D.; three grandchildren, Austin (Marlee) Simonieg, Alexandra (Brian) Cronnelly, and Katie Pierce; and his brother, Clarence (Paulette) Farber, Dickinson.
