Lester Allen Jurgens was born at the Richardton Hospital on March 14, 1947 to John and Katie (Magelky) Jurgens. He was baptized and confirmed at the Taylor Evangelical and Reformed Church now know as the Immanuel Church. He was raised on the family farm in Dunn County and attended a nearby country school until bus service into Taylor was established and then graduated from Taylor High School in 1966. He graduated from Minot State College in 1970. In 1971, he earned his Master’s degree in Art with a minor in Psychology at Arizona State University.
He loved big city life in San Francisco, Berkley, Phoenix, and especially Minneapolis. He always enjoyed talking of or being at the farm. His interest of what was happening within the “Jurgens Tribe” was large. He especially enjoyed the current news of his nephews and nieces. With ongoing deteriorating health, he found a new home in Jamestown for many years.
