Lillian Steffan was born on May 6, 1922 on a farm near New Hradec, daughter of Frank and Anna (Hibl) Steffan. She was educated at Sts. Peter and Paul School through the eighth grade.

Lillian was united in marriage to Laudie Pavlish on October 30, 1940 in New Hradec. They had four children together, Charlotte, Richard, Judy and Beverly. She cleaned houses and cooked for a living. Lillian cooked at a downtown café and was also a cook at Lincoln School for 19 years.

Lillian was united in marriage to Val Hoerner on July 21, 1975 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson. Lillian and Val’s garden was envied by the neighbors. They worked very well together whether it was gardening, cooking, baking, canning, fixing things or praying.

She loved to crochet, make doilies and dish cloths which we all looked forward to getting each year. She baked the best kolaches, rolichy, buska, chicken noodle soup, borscht soup and german potato salad. Gatherings at Mom’s were filled with delicious meals, playing cards, games, visiting, a lot of laughter and love.

Lillian was a Christian woman with strong faith, having been a longtime member of St. Ann’s Altar Society. Prayer was very important to her and whenever someone needed prayers they called on her. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved and prayed for each and everyone of her family and she will be greatly missed by all!

Lillian is survived by her children, Charlotte (Victor) Barnes, Sacramento, Calif., Richard (Marilyn) Pavlish, Lincoln, Neb., and Judy (Paul) Duerre, Killeen, Texas; seven step-children, Pat (Jan) Hoerner, Dickinson, Rita (Bert) Kersh, Spokane, Wash., Carol Holley, Thornton, Colo., Ruth (Wes) Wessner, Bismarck, Gene (Mary) Hoerner, Dickinson, Renee (Brian) Benesh, Dickinson, and James (Tammi) Hoerner, Aurora, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husbands; her daughter, Beverly; four brothers, Joe, Robert, Charlie, Frank; three sisters, Mary Cherne, Rose Buresh, and Anna Chalupnik; two sons-in-law, Paul and Stan; two grandsons, Ken and Don; and one great-great-grandson, Finnly.
