Lorene A. Summers, 91, Dickinson, died Sunday, April 12, 2015 at St. Benedict’s Health Center, Dickinson. Lorene’s funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 20, 2015 at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, with Rev. Tim Privratsky officiating. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service.
Lorene A. Summers was born in Werner, on October 14, 1923, the daughter of Ellis E. and Velora G. (Grow) Summers. In 1928 she moved to Dickinson with her family and has resided here since. She attended Dickinson Public Schools for 12 years, graduating from Dickinson High School with the Class of 1941.
In November of 1941 she was employed by F.W. Woolworth Co. as a sales clerk and in November 1942 took over the position of bookkeeper, which she kept until her retirement in March 1987.
She was a continuous member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary since 1946. Following her retirement she joined RSVP, and for many years worked at volunteer sites, such as, Arc Aid Thrift Store, St. Benedict’s Nursing Center, and Dickinson State Teachers College, now DSU. Throughout the years of retirement she took numerous bus tours with friends, travelling to all of the Canadian Provinces, and most of the lower 48 states and Alaska.
Lorene is survived by one sister-in-law, Eleanor J. Summers, Dickinson; nieces, Julie Westmeier, Wisc., Pam (Jim) Penticoff, Calif., Sherry Krueger, Wishek, Janet Summers, Billings, and Marlene (Mrs. Paul) Summers, Bismarck; and nephews, Earl E. (Jeanette) Summers, Calif., and Dean R. Summers, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Arthur, Wilbur E., Raymond E., and Charles “Vernon”; three sisters-in-law, Jean, Hilma, and Arlene; two nephews, Paul Summers and David Summers; one great-nephew, Jeffrey Summers; and one great-great-niece, Vivian Marie Arnett.
