Loretta K. Baer, 79, Dickinson, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at the St. Luke’s Home, Dickinson. Loretta’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Richardton, with Fr. Boniface Muggli, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Richardton. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a rosary at 7 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson.
Loretta K. Friedt was born January 17, 1934 at Mott, the daughter of Rockus and Catherine “Katie” (Messer) Friedt. She was raised and educated on the family farm north of Mott where she attended rural school south of the farm until 8th grade.
Loretta and Paul Baer were united in marriage at St. Placidus Catholic Church on June 8, 1953. They moved to Philip, S.D. for a short time before returning to Richardton where they purchased the family farm. Together they farmed and raised their family until 1989 when Paul and Loretta moved into Dickinson.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, and the Springvale Homemakers Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going fishing, playing cards, attending rummage sales, working in the garden, reading, quilting, and above all, time spent with her grandchildren.
Loretta is survived by her 11 children, Deb Baer, Branford, Conn., Keith (Sandy) Baer, Dickinson, Dennis (Rita) Baer, Richardton, Wayne (Delores) Baer, Richardton, Ken (Kathy) Baer, Garrison, Tom Baer, Spearfish, S.D., Jerilyn (Russ) Myran, Taylor, Lisa (Bodee) Wilson, Jackson, Wyo., Pete Baer, Elk Grove, Calif., Ron (special friend Jodi Bubel) Baer, Dickinson, and Lori Hurst, Dayton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Friedt, Mott; and one sister-in-law, Diane Vetter, Mott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul on August 15, 1990; her parents; two brothers, Valentine and Tom Friedt; grandson, Paul Myran; and sister-in-law, Inez Friedt.
