Louis L. Dykema, 76, Dickinson, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at his home. Funeral services for Louis will be at 10 a.m., Monday, July 5, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Dickinson, with Rev. Scott McKirdy officiating. Interment will follow at the Dickinson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the family present to visit with friends, at Ladbury Funeral Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

Louis Leroy Dykema was born January 21, 1934 on a farm in Emmons County of North Dakota, the son of Abel and Wilmina (Millenaar) Dykema. He attended country school and then graduated from Strasburg High School in 1952. That summer he attended Ellendale Teachers College and taught country school for four years.

Louis married Elizabeth Van Heukelom on August 1, 1956 in Westfield. They lived in Montana and then moved to Dickinson and following a 30 year career with Sweetheart Bakery he retired in 1994. Following his retirement he went to work for Newby’s Ace and due to health reasons he retired after 15 years.

Louis belonged to the United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men, the Eagles and Elks. He found great joy in gardening and woodworking.

Louis is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; their three children, Leslie (Laurae) Dykema, Dickinson, Jilene (Doug Walker) Baird, Dickinson, and Carla (Wayne) Pasicznyk, Burnsville, Minn., four grandchildren, Paul (fiancée-Jen Larkins) Denver, Colo., Kayla (Trevor) Long, St. Louis Park, Minn., Stephanie Dykema, Dickinson, and Evan (Amanda) Pasicznyk, Rosemount, Minn.; great-granddaughter, Linnea Pasicznyk, Rosemount, Minn.; four siblings, Marvin (Jean) Dykema, Bismarck, John (Monica) Dykema, Linton, Dennis (Doris) Dykema, Strasburg, and Arlene (Don) Davis, Hazelton; one sister-in-law, Marlene Dykema, Pollock, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Orville; and one niece, Arlis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church or to Heartland Hospice.
