Luella Jacobs, 85, New England, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at her home. Luella’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England, with Fr. Patrick Moore, OSB as the celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church. There will be a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m., at the church with Deacon Victor Dvorak presiding. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Luella Maixner was born October 19, 1926 on the family homestead near Buffalo Springs, the youngest daughter of John and Luella (Langer) Maixner. She was raised and educated near the homestead, and graduated from St. Mary’s High School, New England in 1944. She then went to work for the New England Creamery until 1946.
Luella was united in marriage to Walter Jacobs on November 26, 1946 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Their first year together they lived on Uncle Adrian Jacobs farm near Regent. In the Spring of 1947, they bought a farmstead 10 miles southeast of Amidon. The Jacobs remained on the farm until 1982 when they moved into New England, and in 1989 bought the Maixner home, where they have lived since.
Luella lived a life of Christian charity, no one entered her home who was not loved, accepted, and fed. She loved baking bread, gardening, playing pinochle, denim quilting, sewing, and making Christmas ornaments for the grandchildren. Luella belonged to the Homemakers, 4-H, Amidon St. Peter & Paul Altar Society, St. Mary’s Altar Society, Women’s Club (pinochle), Red Cross Blood Donation Drive, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Luella is survived by her husband, Walter; nine of their children, Barbara Danks, Dickinson, Adrian Jacobs, Bismarck, Vidette (Tom) Schillo, Golva, Brian (Deb) Jacobs, Bismarck, Sherry (Bernie) Gieser, Park City, Mont., Sandra Majhor, Minnetonka, Minn., Cynthia (Kim) Bozekowski, Littleton, Colo., Bradley (Tess) Jacobs, New England, and Jason (Lisa) Jacobs, Dickinson; 29 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Stan Maixner, Dickinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bruce Jacobs; and her siblings, Rozella Wandler, Vandelin Maxner, Albert Maixner, Margaret Hollenbeck, Lois Nichols, Richard Maixner, and Mildred Griffin.
