M. Leroy Jacobs, 87, New England, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 surrounded by family at his home. Leroy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 31, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New England, with Fr. Biju Chitteth as the celebrant. Military honors will be provided by the New England American Legion Anton Ulijohn Post 66. Interment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Dickinson. Visitation will be on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the church, with a rosary & vigil at 7 p.m. with Deacon Victor Dvorak presiding. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.
Martin Leroy Jacobs was born December 30, 1929 to J. Q. and Goldie Violet (Davison) Jacobs in New England. He attended and graduated from St. Mary’s in New England. He joined the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954.
Leroy married Carol Davidson on May 17, 1958 in Hettinger. They ranched near Reeder from 1958 to 1978, when they moved to the Hettinger area where they farmed. In 1984, they moved to Dickinson where Leroy and his brother Alton owned and operated Big Sky Liquor until his retirement. Upon retirement Leroy moved to New England and resided with his son, Kelly and daughter-in-law Becky. During his retirement, Leroy enjoyed fishing with his family at Skunk Bay, golfing, gardening and traveling.
He was known for his unassuming nature. He was a devout Catholic, proud Republican, prankster, artist, poet, historian, but mostly a dedicated and supportive father.
Leroy is survived by his children, Kevin Jacobs, Lefor, Suzette Printz, Castle Rock, Colo., Kelly (Becky) Jacobs, New England, and Leigh (Darren) Miller, Apple Valley, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Sean (Maesa) Printz, Kristen Printz, Lauren (Charles Kekona) Raddatz, Chase Rocheleau, Jonathan Printz, Skylar Miller and Dexter Miller; two great-grandchildren, Christian Kekona and Mia Printz; siblings Irene Gion, Dickinson, Gerard (Lucy) Jacobs, Regent, Leonard (Carol) Jacobs, Reeder, Alton (Leona) Jacobs, Dickinson, and Quirina Schmidt, Bismarck; sister-in-law, Dybe Jacobs, Bowman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, on March 28, 1989; daughter, Patricia Raddatz; siblings, Leona, Frances, Walter, Wallace “Wally”, and Antonia “Toni”.
