Mabel Mildred Berdahl, 89, Belfield, died Monday, August 20, 2018 at her home. Mildred’s Funeral Service will be 2 p.m., Friday, August 24, 2018 at Ladbury Funeral Service with Deacon Leonard Kordonowy presiding. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fairfield. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Friday.

Mabel Mildred Dutchuk was born July 29, 1929 on the family farm north of Belfield, daughter of Nick J. and Mary (Filkowski) Dutchuk. She was raised and educated in the Fairfield area. She went to Bismarck where she attended and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She returned to Dickinson and earned a certificate to teach school from Dickinson State Teachers College.

Mildred married Steve Romanyshyn in November of 1951 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Church. They farmed and ranched north of Belfield until his death on January 29, 1959 as a result of a house fire that also took her son Leonard. Mildred moved into Belfield where she worked to support her family. She was united in marriage to Albert Berdahl on July 26, 1969 at St. Demetrius Ukrainian Church. Together they lived east of Fairfield where they farmed and Albert worked in the oilfield. She loved to cook, and visiting and spending time with family and friends.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Albert; three children, Rainald Romanyshyn, Fairfield, Thomas Romanyshyn, Phelan, Calif., and Rita Romanyshyn, Fairfield; her sister, Regina Fortin, Grand Forks; step-children, Linda Berdahl and Gloria Singleton; and nine step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Steve; son, Leonard; and step-son, Alfred Berdahl.
