Margery Ann Szelap, 90, died Friday, March 19, 2021 at her home in Las Vegas, Nev. surrounded by her family after losing her battle with cancer. There will be a graveside service for Margery at a 4 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2021 at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Dickinson.
She was born November 10, 1930 on the family farm 18 miles north of Gladstone, Dunn County, daughter of Anton and Albina “Alice” (Hondl) Dvorak. She married Harold N. Szelap and moved to Troy, MI where they ran a party store, later on relocating to Detroit, MI where she ran a restaurant/donut shop. She briefly returned to Dickinson and than relocated to Las Vegas where she retired as a waitress from the Tropicana Resort and Casino. She enjoyed traveling to visit with family, occasionally visiting the slot machines, watching her soaps, word search puzzles, walking in the companionship of her dogs.
Margery is survived by her children, Edmund (Chris), Novi, MI, Michael, Holly, MI, Larry, Las Vegas, Nev. and Constance, Irving, Texas; granddaughter, Crystal; great-grandchild, Riyan; siblings, Jean (Joe) Fetch, Billings, Mont., Elsie Boyd, Dickinson, Bertha O’Connor, Bismarck, and Edwin (Bonnie) Dvorak, Gladstone; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Alfred (Hattie), Lillian and Anton; and brothers-in-law, Leroy Boyd and Robert O’Connor.
